The Elementary Study of Copper
The red, earthy metal that will pass away.
"Having eyes, see ye not?" (Mark 8:18)

Copper Throughout the Bible

1400 years before Christ, God revealed his plan for man’s redemption in the design of His tabernacle.

Hebrews 8:5 NIV

They serve at a sanctuary  that is a copy and a shadow of what is in heaven.  This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle : “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”

John  5:45-47 NIV

“But do not think I will accuse you before the father.  Your accuser is Moses on whom your hopes are set.  If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote of me.  But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?“

Luke 16:31 NIV

“He said  him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

Exodus 27:9-19   The Courtyard:

Notice verse 19; they were to make everything bronze except what they were specifically instructed to make out of silver.  Bronze foundation,  silver is above and unreachable.

Exodus 27:1-8   The Alter of Burnt Offerings:

The alter was all bronze, the color of blood, and you could not   approach the mercy seat without being first confronted with this alter.

Exodus 30:17-21   Basin for Washing:

We are not even fit to make an offering to Lord, much less approach the “Mercy Seat”, so there was a “Basin for Washing” placed between the “Alter of Offering” and the “Holy Place” to remind us of that.   Paul alludes to this image in Hebrews 10: 22.

Exodus 36:38   Entrance to the Holy Place:

The foundation to the entry into the “Holy Place” is through the blood (bronze), but once you enter through that curtain there is a whole new world, that is   beautiful, incorruptible, and eternal; everything is gold.  (Revelation 21:4 and Revelation 22:1-4)

Miscellaneous Copper References

Numbers 21:8

It was the serpent that deceived Eve in the beginning.   God used the Israelites rebellion to remind them of their faithless nature, as well as to prophecy of the blood sacrifice that would open the door to restoring the relationship with God that man once had.   (John 3:14)

Revelation 1:15

It was with his feet that Jesus walked up to Calvary the ultimate symbol of corruption, to offer his blood!
